Thursday night football this week brings these 2 NFC East rivals together with both teams looking for their first wins of the season, last week Washington fell 20-16 to the Chargers in a close game, whereas the Giants looked way off pace falling 27-13 to the Broncos. Both teams will be looking to bounce back following week 1 losses, in this article I will break down the game and give you my best selections for the game.
The hero of Tyler Heinicke is back at the helm for the WFT this week and for the foreseeable future after starter Ryan Fitzpatrick was placed on IR with a hip injury, the QB who nearly guided Washington to a shock win in the wildcard round over eventual SB Winners Tampa Bay recently signed a 2yr $8m deal in the off-season to keep him in Washington, last week he went 11/15 for 122yrds and a TD in the loss vs the LAC. The WFT start this one as 3pt favorites, in the last 10 games between these 2 the favorites are 5-5 ATS which helps no-one and the over and under between these 2 teams have been 3over to 7unders, a 70% in backing under 41 points in this game. Both these teams stayed under 41 in their openers. The Washington defence held the Chargers to 3.1 YPC on 29 attempts last week and you feel that the Giants will have to run the ball successfully to come out on top in this one, if Daniel Jones has to throw the ball 45+ times the Giants will lose this one convincingly. Last week against the Broncos, Saquon Barkley averaged 2.6YPC on 10 attempts for 26yards, he will need to be better, but the Giants O-Line against Washington’s elite front 7, I can see a repeat 2.6YPC performance incoming. One bright spark from the loss was Giants WR Sterling Shepard, he is by far Daniel Jones’s favorite target, last year his line was constantly at 3.5 receptions at 5/6 and he averaged 5.5 receptions per game. Last week he had 7 catches for 113 yards and a score. His receptions line this week is set at 4.5 @ 8/13 a slightly shorter price but the value is still there.
In terms of value on the Washington side, Antonio Gibson carried the ball 20 times last week for 90 yards at 4.5YPC, The Giants defence allowed 165 rushing yards on 28 attempts last week @ 5.8YPC , I could see more Antonio Gibson rushes coming tonight, his rushing yards line is currently at 68.5 @ 5/6 with B365 and with the way the Giants rush defence looked last week, and with the fact they have a good secondary, i’ll happily take that as well.
In terms of the value of the overall match, Washington to win and under 42.5 points is available at Betfair @ 9/5 i will be taking that, I will also be taking the Washington Football Team on a slight teaser taking them down to -2.5 @ 4/6 with B365 i think they win by more than 3, but just in case it takes me below the key number of 3!
